There are different types of this vitamin, but the one in particular which I will focus on is Cholecalciferol, commonly know as D3. This particular form of vitamin D is produced in the skin after exposure to sun, or intake of certain foods and supplements.
Why is Vitamin D3 so important to our health?
Vitamin D is an integral part of our growing lives. Without it, we will suffer from depression and seasonal affective disorder. Think of how much happier we are when we out in the sun, compared to when there is no sun at all (just like now, whilst I am typing this).
Below is a list of some common problems and diseases linked to Vitamin D deficiency:
- Cancer
- Psoriasis
- Autoimmune diseases
- Asthma
- Autism
- Diabetes
- Muscle mass and strength loss
- Celiac disease
- Heart disease
Getting the right amount
So how do we get the right amount of D3? If we do not get enough sunlight (this is probably you), research indicates a necessity to supplement with at least 5,000 units (IU) of vitamin D daily. If you are interested, and are after a high quality Vitamin D3 supplement, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please note that it is highly recommended to get your D3 levels checked via a blood test. If you are severely low on D3, you may need to up your dosage for a few weeks, to a few months.
